Dreamer Conference 2013

From July 17 through July 20, 2013, the University of Colorado - Boulder welcomed more than 100 talented and spirited Dreamers and "I Have A Dream" Foundation program staff from around the country to its campus for the 12th annual National Dreamer Conference.

Each aspect of the conference was designed to equip our Dreamers with the skills needed to gain admission to and excel in college. To participate, Dreamers had to complete an application process that simulated the college application process.

Dreamers interacted with their peers from around the country, as well as college staff and professors in several days worth of academic workshops and recreational activities. This year, a partnership with Colorado University's College of Engineering & Applied Sciences allowed us to present a core series of workshops aimed at strengthening Dreamers' STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) skills. Workshops such as "Boulder Creek Ecology," "Recycling," and "Environmental Science," also allowed Dreamers to take advantage of the vast ecological resources available in beautiful Boulder.

This year, for the first time, College-aged "Alumni Dreamers" also attended the Conference. We hosted a series of six workshops aimed at forging relationships with Alumni Dreamers, creating effective communication and outreach strategies for our Alumni community, as well as creating opportunities for mentorship between current Dreamers and Alumni. Current Dreamers enjoyed the opportunity to meet with their Alumni counterparts and we are excited to grow our support for all Dreamers - including our Alumni!

This conference was made possible by the generous support of our donors.
